What sorts of games do we play?

Our primary goal is to provide a quality experience for everyone. Games are carefully selected to ensure that there is a good variety, can be played in 45 minutes or less, and are actually fun to play. We limit the number of games available at each club session, which keeps the meetings less chaotic and helps us make the most of our limited time together.

The mix of games changes with each session, but here are a few examples of games that might be played at your club:

  • Go Nuts for Donuts
  • Ghost Fightin’ Treasure Hunters
  • Blokus
  • Ticket to Ride: First Journey
  • Sequence
  • Codenames
  • Chickapig
  • Catan Junior
  • Carcassonne

What are the club meetings like?

Typically it looks something like this:

  • Week 1 – Learn & Play:
As a group, we’ll learn a new game and break into play groups to play it.
  • Week 2 – Learn & Play:
As a group, we’ll learn a second new game and break into play groups to play it.
  • Week 3 – Pick & Play:
Kids can gather into groups and choose to either play one of these two new games again or select from some more casual games that are easier to pickup and quicker to play (think UNO, Connect Four, Eleminis, etc.).
  • Week 4 – Learn & Play:
As a group, we’ll learn a third new game and break into play groups to play it.
  • Week 5 – Learn & Play:
As a group, we’ll learn a fourth new game and break into play groups to play it.
  • Week 6 – Pick & Play:
Kids can gather into groups and choose to either play one of the four new games again or select from the more casual game options.

Afterward (when time allows), we’ll circle up and talk about the games we played, what we liked / didn’t like – and discuss any different strategies we noticed during play.

Rules of Board Game Club

  1. It’s OK to Lose. It’s OK to Win.
It’s NOT ok to have a bad attitude about either.

  2. Treat Things Gently
    No boxes on the floor.

  3. Everyone Cleans Up
Check the floor, bag components and put away games as you found them.

  4. No Quitting
Unless ALL players at the table agree to quit.

  5. Clean Hands
Drinks and food should be far away from games.

  6. Quiet-ish Voices
Be respectful. Its ok to have fun, but don’t prevent the players around you from having fun as well!

How are meeting cancellations handled?

We will follow the inclement weather and school closure policy of the school district. We will attempt to schedule a make-up class, provided the cancelled class takes place at least one week before the start of the next session.

How are refunds handled?

A refund will be made to any parent who withdraws a child prior to the second week of a session. Withdrawal after the second week is not subject to a refund. Refunds will not be issued for meetings missed by the child.

What does the fee cover?

Beyond covering our time to run the club, the fee also helps to fund the purchase of new games. Many of the games we’ll be playing can cost $20 to $40 each and support a maximum of 4 players. In order to ensure that everyone can always play, we provide multiple copies.
